Beware of website Roblox

tamlee75 - 9/30/2008 at 09:39 AM

I just wanted to let parents be aware of a site that I discovered my 10 year old daughter was able to create an unconfirmed account for. ROBLOX.com. At first glance it appears to be a robot game and claims to be child safe; but I discovered it is not. It not only allows children of any age to create an account, you chat with people of all ages and even can go into one game room as an adult and "morph" with the opposite sex to have a baby. I emailed the site regarding my issues and they offered no comfort. It's a work in progress basically to them. So watch out. What might look like a kid's game, may not be after all.:(

Hi. I'm a avid player of the game.

Places like that have been made "Against the rules" by most Moderators of the game.

Players are supposed to use the "Report Abuse" button, and a Moderator will delete the place back to the basic Empty Baseplate.

And yes, the game is still in the works. But is pretty hard to make sure everything is kid-friendly, if everything is built by Players themselfs.

Hi. I'm the Vice President of Operations for ROBLOX. We completely agree with tamlee75's passion to keep kids safe. That's why ROBLOX is a COPPA compliant website and is a TRUSTe Kids Privacy seal holder.

We do not take private information from kids under 13. Kids can play as guests or enter a username and password to create a character. Email is optional, and we specify that the child enters his/her parent's address; the parent receives an email notifying him/her of the child's activities. Furthermore, all chat, user messaging, and free-text entry are locked down unless a parent specifies otherwise.

If you have any questions, please contact us at info@roblox.com or (888) 858-BLOX.

Thanks!

Keith
